Running for the Respite Center/Colella Foundation

WELCOME! Thank you for taking the time to visit my website. My name is Amanda Wolf and I am an assistant Atheltic Trainer at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts.
I have always been an runner. This year I decided I wanted to do something different. So I decided to run the Boston Marathon. It is the biggest running challenge in the area and I wanted to prove to myself that I could do it.
When I went to the Boston Marathon website and saw all the charities that you could run for, I couldn't help but become immediately engrossed in exploring them all. There are so many, how was I to choose just one? What would make one stand out to me over another? Well, I didn't choose the biggest charity, or the easiest to raise money for. I didn't choose the one that said you only had to raise $500 to run. I chose the Michael Carter Lisnow Respite Center in Hopkinton, MA. The purpose of the Respite Center is to provide emotional and physical support for disabled children and the families of those children. The Center has 7 different programs that care for disabled children from birth to the age of 21.For example there is evening daycare, a "saturday night out" program, a daily daycare program, and an afterschool program. They even have a programs for disabled adults. They can teach activities of daily living such as brushing your teeth and showering independently, as well as things like shopping and money management. Part of the adult program is also finding employment at one of 7 local businesses in Hopkinton, one of those buinesses being Colella's Market.
When I called to help the Respite Center, I was asked if I would be interested in supporting them indirectly through Colella's Market. Colella's sponsors a scholarship every year for a local high school student who could not otherwise afford to go on to college, and might not even think of going to college without this scholarship. By supporting my fundraising efforts, you are helping to allow for this scholarship.
When I think about how important a place like The Respite Center is to families of disabled children, and how vaulable Colella's Market is to the community, I cannot think of a better charity to raise money for by running the Boston Marathon.
I will be tracking my donations on the website. You can also view my training progress thus far for the long haul of 26.2 miles. I will try to update it regularly.
Please consider donating as much as you can to help these causes and help me to reach my goal of $2500. I would do anything to make their lives just a little bit better, and I hope you feel the same way. Thank you for your support!!
Sincerely,
Amanda Wolf
